Since 2008, the person charged with making sure that Conservation Minnesota has the financial resources it needs to fulfill its mission has fallen squarely on the shoulders of Development Director Julia Van Avery. A native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Julia showed flashes of her now famous work ethic from the moment she could walk, by helping stock shelves in her family’s Piggly Wiggly store.
A strong outdoor ethic was also instilled in her at a young age. Be it participating in sports, camping with friends or even hunting for crawdads in local lakes, Julia says her desire to make sure her children get the same experiences is what drew her to Conservation Minnesota.
Julia’s favorite place in Minnesota: Lutsen, MN
